Sitemap with Mental Model
Tents-4-Homeless is a non-profit agency based in Los Angeles which provides a temporary solution to the homeless crisis by donating lightweight tents to the homeless population.
Stakeholder / User Interviews
Interviewing stakeholders and users helped me to empathize their pain points. It also assisted me in visualizing a mental "bigger picture" as well as pull recurring key terms.
Creating different personas gave me a window onto different user's perspectives as well as the level of technological constraints for each demographic.
User's Goals and Frustrations
Starting with one of my fictitious personas, creating his biography became the starting point on how I dictated my design decision-making process.
The persona's user journey became an emotional blueprint on how I tackled the problem. From his past experiences, awareness, and life choices I pulled out 3 key insights from different stages in his life.
I constructed a user flow from landing page to checkout. Every stage of the user flow mirrored the mental model of his user journey, also creating empathy in the process. From a UX perspective, I wanted to create a streamlined process from the homepage to checkout with few page jumps.
Organizing the site's pages and navigation helped construct a simple user flow and differentiate between high function pages.

I tested the navigation using paper prototyping. It was cheap and I was able to make iterations on the fly

Home Screen Wireframe
The proposed home screen has a clear mission statement with an active voice to engage the user.
Icons give the user a clear picture of how the organization works. Persistent navigation and progress step indicators provide the user familiarity on a page.
Form fields become more legible and the checkout process rewards the user with a sense of delight.
